Discipline

Discipline is intended to foster responsibility, independence and a positive attitude. The best discipline is self-control. It is based upon understanding the limits of ones freedom and actions as they relate to others.

Teachers Responsibility for Discipline

Classroom teachers have the direct responsibility for creating and maintaining effective classroom environments for student learning. Teachers establish a classroom climate that promotes fairness, respect and responsibility and they maintain high expectations for their students. Teachers regularly communicate, model and reinforce the Clark Code and General Schoolwide/Classroom Rules to all students.

Classroom rules, rewards and consequences are posted in every classroom. Ideally classroom rules simply consist of the Clark Code and General Schoolwide/Classroom Rules. Rewards and consequences are agreed upon by every teacher of each teaching team. Rewards and consequences (particularly contacts with parents, other teachers, and counselors) are documented records maintained for each student.

Referrals
Consequences are based on the students prior discipline history, severity of the offense, and previous interventions. A range of actions are outlined on the discipline plan.
Please consult the discipline plan when determining intervention steps.

The Clark Code

We believe that teaching and learning happen best in an environment that is safe, supportive, attractive and orderly.
