2024-2025 Elective Course Information
ASB (Stu Govt 6-8)
ASB is a leadership class. You will use skills such as budgeting, time management, and event planning. Some ASB activities occur at lunch or after school. You will need to submit an essay and be selected for this class.
Art 1-2 (6-8)
Art is an elective class at Clark Middle School, and is a California Art Standards-based course
aimed at developing art literacy in the areas of artistic perception, creative expression, historical
and cultural understanding, aesthetic valuing, connecting to and applying art to the educational
process. Students will make art, read and write about art and artists, discuss and critique art,
evaluate art, and develop a web-based portfolio of their work.
Journalism and school news paper. (6-8)
Who? What? When? Where? Journalism provides us with the answers to these questions for the events that affect our lives. In this course, students will learn how to gather information, organize ideas, format stories for different forms of news media, and edit their stories for publication. The course will also examine the historical development of journalism and the role of journalism in society.
Literacy Through Game Design. (6-8)
In this class you will learn how to play various board, card and table top games. We will use various types of media such as fiction, flim, fine arts and technical manuals. Then after learning about these various games you will make your own. From writing stories and rules to creating minitures and other props to play table top games with.
Marachi (6-8)
Mariachi students learn traditional Mexican music that is appropriate to the skill level of the students. We concentrate on correct instrumental techniques, music reading skills, memorization, ear training, and stage presence.
YEARBOOK (Publ Yrbk 6-8)
Yearbook is a leadership class. You will learn skills such as budgeting, time management, and event planning. Some Yearbook activities occur at lunch or after school. You will need to submit an essay and be selected for this class.
THEATER 6-8 Beg
Learn the basics of theater and how to build your performance skills by participating in plays and performance events.
MUSIC
Beginning BAND
Beginning band is designed to meet the needs of students wishing to play a band instrument. Attention is focused on the production of basic rhythms and the understanding of tone production, basic notation, and music fundamentals. Beginning students are expected to furnish their own instruments. No previous experience is required.
JAZZ BAND (Instrumental Ensemble)
Jazz Band is and Advanced course. You must first receive instructor approval by Mr. Lea. The jazz band consists of saxes, trombones, trumpets, bass, drums, piano, and guitar. The Jazz Band performs traditional jazz, as well as pop, rock, Latin, and other styles of music.
INTERMEDIATE BAND (Band 5-8TH Int)
This is a mix of advanced and beginning students. Students who are interested in flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba, French horn, oboe, bassoon, percussion, or electric bass should consider enrolling. You may also learn violin, viola, cello, or bass.
ADVANCED ORCHESTRA (Orchestra 6-8 Adv)
The Advanced Strings ensemble consists of violin, viola, cello and bass. To be enrolled, students must first receive instructor approval by demonstrating competency in basic music skills on one of the above instruments. Advanced Strings performs several concerts a year and submits an audition for Disneyland for a year-end field trip.
